The first map design did not have enough spacing between the areas to implement other features well. The design felt tight and unsuitable for users too explore the map comfortably on the platform.

These are the elements I worked on to complement the primary buildings on the map. I chose to stick with basic shapes and created a variety of elements from them to keep the design simple and easily recognizable. It was important to include these elements on the map to create more structure in a subtle manner.

A closer look at one area where I grouped elements together to create smaller spaces within the parameters given. I organized these elements to resemble the college campus.

I was given the task to design a soccer field and fill in this space with appropriate elements to match. One challenge was creating the goalpost to be easily recognizable but also detailed.

This was another area I was responsible for in creating the building design and organizing the sub-elements. One challenge was to model the building to resemble Skye Hall, an actual building on the UCR campus, while maintaining a certain design style that matches the rest of the map.
Key Takeaways
From this experience, I learned how to design within project constraints and match the overall theme given! I enjoyed working with a close-knit team that openly discussed pros and cons while giving generous amounts of feedback throughout the whole design process. It was rewarding to see our mini prototypes become detailed elements that were fitted onto the final Gather.town map for all the students to enjoy during the event. I'm glad I got to apply my Figma skills while learning new tricks to speed up my workflow even more.
